Purple potatoes?
Last night I ate dinner at the Tiki Grill & Bar, downstairs in the hotel. Hadn't eaten dinner in there before because although the drinks were good, the bar menu was not impressive. But lo and behold, there was a separate restaurant hiding behind the bar, with a different menu. Yum. I had the Tiki Salmon Special, which was awesome. I have no idea what was in the sauce or the slaw/salsa that was artfully arranged on top of the salmon, but it was deee-licious. And it came on top of a mound of Okinawan sweet potatoes...which are purple, guys. Sounds gross, right? But tasted excellent. I'd highly recommend trying them if you ever get the chance. Related only because it is vacation-related: it is so weird to hear the Twelve Days of Christmas and see poinsettias set up and lights wrapped around palm trees. The dissonance between what I think of as a winter holiday and the summer weather and geography is disturbing to someone who has spent most of her life (and Christmases) in the northeastern part of the USA.
